Warnings & Precautions
Charging
- Use a LiPo-Specific Charger: Always use a balanced charger designed specifically for Lithium Polymer batteries. Never use chargers for NiCd or NiMH batteries.
- Never Overcharge: Set the charger correctly to 4.20V per cell (16.8V for the pack). Overcharging is a primary cause of fire.
- Charge in a Safe Area: Charge on a non-flammable surface and never leave batteries charging unattended. A LiPo safety bag is highly recommended.
- Correct Charging Current: Do not exceed the maximum charging current specified by the manufacturer. A rate of 0.5C (750mA for a 1500mAh pack) is standard and safer.
Discharging
- Do Not Over-Discharge: Never allow the battery voltage to fall below 3.0V per cell (12.0V for the pack). Over-discharging can permanently damage the battery and make it unsafe for recharge.
- Mind the Temperature: Do not discharge the battery at currents that cause it to exceed 60°C (140°F). If the battery becomes hot, stop using it and allow it to cool.
- Prevent Short Circuits: Never short-circuit the terminals. This can cause extreme heat, fire, or explosion. Use insulated tools when connecting/disconnecting.
- Avoid Physical Damage: Do not puncture, crush, or deform the battery. In case of a crash (e.g., with a drone), inspect the battery carefully for damage.
Storage
- Storage Voltage: For long-term storage (longer than a few days), discharge or charge the battery to its storage voltage of 3.8V per cell (15.2V for the pack). This significantly extends battery life.
- Storage Environment: Store in a cool, dry place away from flammable materials.
- Transport Safely: When transporting, protect terminals from shorting by covering them with tape and use a non-flammable container.
